She began arranging and composing in high school as a part of her band, orchestra, and choir finals. She continued her studies in composition at Colorado State University under Dr. James David, and has written for ensembles such as the Middle School Outreach Ensemble at CSU, the Mile High Freedom Band, the CSU Trombone Choir, and Mann Middle School.

While much of her inspiration started from literature, she also focuses on pieces surrounding the beautiful nature of her home state of Colorado, along with the folk songs found in elementary music. In addition to composition, Ms. Sheeran teaches K-3 elementary music, assists with the beginning and intermediate bands for the Colorado Honor Band Association, and serves on the board of the Colorado chapter of the American Eurhythmics Society.
